is a grassroots campaign to raise the necessary funds to help pay for short term repairs and defray operating costs, if needed, to open our community pool for the 2006 season. It is also being established to help generate long term funding to make the major repairs needed to this Historic Landmark pool. Built in 1920, and opened every summer since, it is desperately in need of work on both the pool and the bathhouse.
We have successfully completed Phase One of our project opening the pool on June 19, 2006, with an official “Grand Re-Opening Ceremony” held at the pool on June 24, 2006.
This could not have been possible without the support of the great citizens of Dormont, the citizens of surrounding communities and the donations from individuals from as far away as Canada, Arizona, and California. It is truly amazing to find so many people that have either swam in our pool or are familiar with Dormont's signature asset and one of Allegheny County's regional jewels.
We want to thank the local contractors that donated their time and materials to complete the temporary repairs. We would also like to give special thank you to our local VFW Post 694 for their generous gift of $5,000, and also
Dormont AARP for $1,000.
Now that Phase One is complete, we begin the hard work of securing approximately $1,200,000 to complete the major renovations that the pool requires. We are working with the borough and our local politicians to secure a portion of this needed funding but we will continue to need your support to insure the project is a success.
Please take time to read over this site. We have formed a non-profit organization,
Friends of Dormont Pool,
Inc., with the aid of state and local politicians. We greatly appreciate any help you may give us in saving this valuable community asset.
