FODP was chosen by the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh as one of the top ten preservation opportunities for 2008. Dan Holland, CEO of the YPA stated that "the  Dormont Pool was selected because it is a community asset worth preserving and can help Dormont attract attention to other aspects of the community". He also stated "it's unique....the largest in Pennsylvania. It put Dormont on the map". The award was given during  the "Catch the Pioneer Spirit Event" at the New Hazlett Theater on May 16th. Pool supporter Rick Sebak of WQED was the guest speaker. YPA website www.youngpreservationists.org.

Phase One - $25,000 – COMPLETE – POOL OPENED JUNE 19, 2006

Generate public interest in our project and raise enough to complete temporary repairs on the pool and bath house to enable us to get the pool open for the 2006 season.

Phase Two - $500,000 WORK IN PROCESS

Meetings were held with the borough council and a long term plan for the permanent repair of the Dormont Pool and bath house has been established. This project has the support our state, county, and local government officials and as a result of everyone's hard work Dormont Borough has been able to secure grants totaling close to $650,000.

Renovations started in March of 2008 focusing on the major structural repairs required in the bath house, filtration equipment, and decking. Repairs to the actual pool shell are tentatively scheduled for 2009.

Phase Three - $1,200,000 ( Phase Two dollars included )

Complete the necessary renovations to the bath house and pool shell. Continue fund raising efforts with the county, state, and private foundations.  Work with the borough council to establish a potential long term maintenance fund and begin to discussion the funding of any future improvements or enhancements to the facility.
